Labradors are people-oriented dogs, always ready for a jog around the neighborhood, a strenuous hike or an endless game of fetch. Labs are reliable, willing and patient. Labs are easily trained, being naturally patient and obedient, but they are probably not the best guard dogs.

If you like playing fetch (and, especially if you like playing it for hours), you’ll love having a Golden Retriever. Golden retrievers are loaded with confidence and good vibes. They are not particularly aggressive, territorial, manipulative or destructive.

Often called toys with terrier qualities, Yorkshire Terriers are not your typical couch companion. Yorkshire Terriers were bred in 19th century England from a mixture of Scottish Terriers: Clydesdale, Skye, Paisley and Waterside Terriers; and were used by miners near Yorkshire to catch rats that had infested the mines.

Boston Terriers can be very happy in apartments. A good daily walk and regular activity in the park will be enough to keep them mentally and physically in shape. Boston Terriers have short, compact, muscular frames with well-balanced and graceful postures. Their short, wide and flat heads—sized in proportion to their bodies—have square, wrinkle-free muzzles.

Weimaraners have the tendency to rule the household if they are not trained properly. A strong-willed owner—with the time and ability to train, socialize and play—is almost essential. A healthy Weimaraner can live as long as 12 years.
